Getting started Useful information When reading this manual keep the following information in mind, as it will help you understand the operation of the CR100. backlight < A blue backlight comes on for five seconds whenever a key is pressed. This helps you use the handset in subdued lighting conditions. Power LEd blinks < Short blinks indicate a valid key press. < Multiple short blinks convey information (such as a device code) or signal the beginning and successful completion of a programming sequence. < Long blinks indicate an invalid key press or entry. < The symbol is used in the manual to indicate a Power LED blink. Timeouts and unassigned keys < Time Out After 10 seconds the CR100 exits the programming state and returns to normal operation. < Stuck Key Timeout After any key is pressed continuously for 30 seconds, the CR100 stops sending IR transmission to conserve battery life. The CR100 remains off until all keys are released. < Unassigned Keys The CR100 control ignores any unassigned key presses for a particular mode and does not transmit IR. English CR100 E-5 Inserting batteries 1. Open the battery compartment by pressing the button on the back of the handset. 2. Insert four AAA batteries into the battery compartment: two with + facing the top of the handset, and two with + facing the end cap, as in the diagram. 3. Lower the end cap onto the plastic locating plate in the handset. This acts as a hinge, and you can now push the end cap firmly into its locked position with a click. Low voltage indicator When the batteries are running down, the IR transmit indicator on the CR100 (the LED surrounding the Power button) flashes five times whenever you press a button. If this happens, please fit four new AAA alkaline batteries as soon as possible. The CR100 has a range of about seven meters. (If a units remote sensor is obscured, you may be able to use a remote control input jack on the rear panel contact your dealer for further information.) < As with any IR remote, operation may become unreliable if strong sunlight or strong fluorescent light is shining on a front panel remote sensor. CR100 E-6 This section describes the simplest (preferred) way to program the CR100s Device Mode keys to control the non-Arcam devices in your system. < Some of the modes are locked to Arcam operation but can be unlocked if required (see page 18). < mode only controls Arcam equipment. DVD modeLocked SAT modeUnlocked AV modeUnlocked TUN modeLocked AUX modeLocked VCR modeUnlocked CD modeLocked Example: To set up the CR100 for an addison TV Here is a specific example of how to program the key to control an Addison television. The principles for controlling other devices are exactly the same. 1. Make sure your device is switched on (not just on stand-by). 2. Find the correct Device Code table (e.g. TV) for the type of device you want to control from the CR100. 3. Controlling other devices: Method 1 (Direct code setup) English CR100 E-7 Controlling other devices: Method 2 (Library search) This section describes another way to program the CR100 to control third- party equipment. Library Search allows you to scan through all the codes contained in the CR100s memory. It can take a lot longer than the previous method, so only use this method if: < Your device does not respond to the CR100 after you have tried all the codes listed for your brand. < Your brand is not listed at all in the Device Code tables.
