When checking the laser diode, be sure to keepyour eyes at least 30cm away from the pickup lens when the diode is turned on. Do not look directly at the laserbeam.Caution: Use of controls and adjustments, or doing procedures other than those specified herein, may result inhazardous radiation exposure.Do not look directly at the laser beam comingfrom the pickup or allow it to strike against yourskin.Location: Top of DVD mechanism.LASER RADIATIONWHEN OPEN. DO NOTSTARE INTO BEAM.CAUTIONCAUTION FOR SAFETY IN PERFORMING REPAIR11-21-2 IMPORTANT SAFETY PRECAUTIONS1-2-1 Product Safety NoticeSome electrical and mechanical parts have specialsafety-related characteristics which are often not evi-dent from visual inspection, nor can the protection theygive necessarily be obtained by replacing them withcomponents rated for higher voltage, wattage, etc.Parts that have special safety characteristics are iden-tified by a # on schematics and in parts lists. Use of asubstitute replacement that does not have the samesafety characteristics as the recommended replace-ment part might create shock, fire, and/or other haz-ards. The Products Safety is under reviewcontinuously and new instructions are issued when-ever appropriate. Prior to shipment from the factory, our products are carefully inspected to confirm withthe recognized product safety and electrical codes ofthe countries in which they are to be sold. However, inorder to maintain such compliance, it is equally impor-tant to implement the following precautions when a setis being serviced.1-2-2 Precautions during ServicingA. Parts identified by the # symbol are critical forsafety. Replace only with part number specified.B. In addition to safety, other parts and assembliesare specified for conformance with regulationsapplying to spurious radiation. These must also bereplaced only with specified replacements.Examples: RF converters, RF cables, noise block-ing capacitors, and noise blocking filters, etc.C. Use specified internal wiring. Note especially:1)Wires covered with PVC tubing2)Double insulated wires3)High voltage leadsD. Use specified insulating materials for hazardouslive parts. Note especially:1)Insulation tape2)PVC tubing 3)Spacers4)Insulators for transistorsE. When replacing AC primary side components(transformers, power cord, etc.), wrap ends ofwires securely about the terminals before solder-ing.F. Observe that the wires do not contact heat produc-ing parts (heatsinks, oxide metal film resistors, fus-ible resistors, etc.).G. Check that replaced wires do not contact sharpedges or pointed parts.H. When a power cord has been replaced, check that5 - 6 kg of force in any direction will not loosen it.I.Also check areas surrounding repaired locations.J. Be careful that foreign objects (screws, solderdroplets, etc.) do not remain inside the set.K. Crimp type wire connectorThe power transformer uses crimp type connectorswhich connect the power cord and the primary sideof the transformer. When replacing the transformer, follow these steps carefully and precisely to preventshock hazards.Replacement procedure1)Remove the old connector by cutting the wires at apoint close to the connector.Important: Do not re-use a connector. (Discard it.)2)Strip about 15 mm of the insulation from the endsof the wires. If the wires are stranded, twist thestrands to avoid frayed conductors.3)Align the lengths of the wires to be connected.Insert the wires fully into the connector.4)Use a crimping tool to crimp the metal sleeve at itscenter. Be sure to crimp fully to the complete clo-sure of the tool.L. When connecting or disconnecting the internalconnectors, first, disconnect the AC plug from theAC outlet.1-31-2-3 Safety Check after ServicingExamine the area surrounding the repaired location fordamage or deterioration. Observe that screws, parts, and wires have been returned to their original posi-tions. Afterwards, do the following tests and confirmthe specified values to verify compliance with safetystandards.1. Clearance DistanceWhen replacing primary circuit components, confirmspecified clearance distance (d) and (d) between sol-dered terminals, and between terminals and surround-ing metallic parts. (See Fig. 1)Table 1 : Ratings for selected areaNote: This table is unofficial and for reference only. Be sure to confirm the precise values.2. Leakage Current TestConfirm the specified (or lower) leakage currentbetween B (earth ground, power cord plug prongs)and externally exposed accessible parts (RF termi-nals, antenna terminals, video and audio input andoutput terminals, microphone jacks, earphone jacks, etc.) is lower than or equal to the specified value in thetable below. Measuring Method (Power ON) :Insert load Z between B (earth ground, power cordplug prongs) and exposed accessible parts. Use anAC voltmeter to measure across the terminals of loadZ. See Fig. 2 and the following table.AC Line VoltageClearance Distance (d) (d)120 V 3.2mm (0.126 inches)Table 2: Leakage current ratings for selected areasNote: This table is unofficial and for reference only. When you connect or disconnect the FFC (FlexibleFoil Connector) cable, be sure to first disconnectthe AC cord.2. FFC (Flexible Foil Connector) cable should beinserted parallel into the connector, not at an angle.1-3-3 Pb (Lead) Free SolderWhen soldering, be sure to use the Pb free solder.1-3-4 Instructions for Handling Semi-conductorsElectrostatic breakdown of the semi-conductors mayoccur due to a potential difference caused by electro-static charge during unpacking or repair work.1. Ground for Human BodyBe sure to wear a grounding band (1M) that is prop-erly grounded to remove any static electricity that maybe charged on the body.2. Ground for Workbench(1) Be sure to place a conductive sheet or copper platewith proper grounding (1M) on the workbench orother surface, where the semi-conductors are to beplaced. Because the static electricity charge onclothing will not escape through the body ground-ing band, be careful to avoid contacting semi-con-ductors with your clothing.Top ViewOutInBottom ViewInput510Pin 1Pin 1FFC CableConnectorCBA* Be careful to avoid a short circuit.CBAGrounding BandConductive Sheet orCopper Plate1M1MCBA2-12-1 SPECIFICATIONSITEMDESCRIPTIONDVD sectionOutput signal formatNTSC colorVideo output impedance75 Video output level1.0 V P-PAudio output level2.0 VrmsVideo S/N ratio60 dB or moreDisc usedDVD video disc, Music CD discAudio frequency characteristicDVD (linear audio) 20 Hz - 22 kHz (48 kHz sampling frequency) 20 Hz - 44 kHz (96 kHz sampling frequency)Music CD 20 Hz - 20 kHz (JEITA)Signal/Noise (S/N) ratioCD: 70 dB (JEITA)Dynamic rangeDVD (linear audio): 70 dB, CD: 70 dB (JEITA)Total distortion ratioDVD: 0.004%, CD: 0.0045%TerminalVideo outputPIN JACKAudio outputPIN JACKComponent video outputPIN JACKS Video outputMINI DIN 4PIN JACK (75 )Coaxial digital audio outputPIN JACKOthersPower supply120 V AC +/- 10%, 60 Hz +/- 0.5%Power consumption10 W (Standby: 0.8 W)Temperature range for operation5 C - 40 CDimensions435(W) mm x 51(H) mm x 211(D) mmWeight1.3 kgGENERAL INFORMATION22-22-2 COMPARISON OF MODELSO: Yes, -: No, : Same as on leftITEMDV-P543UDV-P533UAPPEARANCEDimensional435(W) x 50(H) x 211(D) mm435(W) x 55(H) x 211(D) mmHot Stamp- Ultra Vision Badge- GENERALDrive Speed1xLaser2DVD/VCD/SVCD/CD-DAO / - / - / OCD-R/CD-RW/DVD-R (Video Format)O / O / ODVD-RAM/DVD-RW- / O (Video Mode)- / - MP3/WMAO / - OSD languages3 (English, French, Spanish)Jog Shuttle on Front- Headphone Jack / Volume- / - VIDEOPAL Disc NTSC Out- Video Out Mode NTSC/PAL/PAL60O / - / -S-Video / Component / CompositeO / O / OVideo D/A Converter10bit / 54MHzBlack Level SelectO Picture Control- Progressive OutO AUDIOAudio D/A Converter192kHz / 24bitDigital Audio Out Optical / Coaxial- / ODolby Digital 5.1 ch Decode-DTS Digital Out-Virtual SurroundODynamic Range Compression (Dolby Digital)ODVD Audio-TRICK PLAYSearch Speed 2 to 100 (FORWARD/REWIND)(DVD: 2, 8, 50, 100/CD: 16)Slow Speed1/16, 1/8, 1/2 (FORWARD/REWIND)IP Search (Smooth 2x Play)O1.5x Play with Audio-Step Forward / ReverseO / -Still Picture Select (Frame/Field)Frame / Field / AutoAuto Only 2-3ITEMDV-P543UDV-P533UFEATURESDisc NavigationO-DVD Zoom x2 / x4 / x16O / O / -Program and Random Play of DVD / VCD-A-B RepeatORepeatOResumeOO (can not effect after Power off)Closed Caption for NTSC DVDOFront Panel Display DimmerOScreen SaverOAuto Power OffO (always on)OREMOTECONTROLLERJog Shuttle on Remote Controller-TV Control-2-42-3 COMPARISON OF MAIN CONTROL ICS-: No, : Same as on leftITEMDV-P543UDV-P533USWNC7SB3157P6X / SN74LVC1G3157DCKR (IC201)NC7SB3157P6X (IC201)OP AMPLM324PWR / LM324PT (IC202)KIA324F-EL (IC202)SERVO DRIVESA5694 / FAN8024CDTF / BA5954FP-E2 / BA5888FP-E2 (IC301)SA5694 / BA5954FP-E2 (IC301)RESETPST3229NR (IC461)PST9127NR / BMR-110527 (IC461)BMR-110529 (IC462)-MICRO CONTROLLERMN35202 (IC101)MN35102 (IC101)SDRAMK4S641632H-UC75 (IC503)K4S643232F-TC60 / HY57V643220CT-(7,55) (IC102)FLASH ROMMBM29LB160T / BM90TN-K / MX29LV160ABTC-90G (IC103)MBM29LV160BE90TN-K / MBM29LV160B90PFTNSFK / HY29LV160BT-90 / MX29LV160BTC-90 / M29W160DB70N6 (IC103)LATCH-74LVX573MTCX / TC74LVX573FT(EL) (IC104, IC105)CLOCK GENERATOR-BU2363FV-E2 (IC451)AUDIO D/A CONVERTERPCM1755DBQR (IC601)PCM1751DBQR (IC601)ERROR VOLTAGE DETEL817B / EL817C / LTV-817B-F / LTV-817C-F / PS2561A-1(W) / PS2561A-1(Q) (IC1001)LTV-817B-F / LTV-817C-F (IC1001)1.2V REGPQ070XZ5MZP (IC1002)PQ070XF01SZ (IC1002)SHUNT REGULATORKIA431-AT / FAN431AZXA (IC1006)KIA431-AT (IC1006)AMPKIA4558P / NJM4558D / RC4580IP (IC1201)VIDEO DRIVERMM1637XVBE (IC1402)MM1622XJBE (IC1402)MM1636XWRE (IC1403)-FRONT PANEL CONTROLPT6313-S-TP / SC16313 (IC2001)PT6313-S-TP (IC2001)2-52-4 LIST OF ABBREVIATIONS AND TERMS FOR DVD PLAYERIndexAbbreviation/TermExplanationAAC3See Dolby AC3.CCD-ROne type of DVD standard disc, to which writing once is possible (recordable type)CD-RWOne type of CD standard disc, to which writing up to 1000 times is possibleComponent video output terminalsUsed for outputs of HDTV video signal format.
