DSP/AC3 Theory of Operation In order to easily diagnose the operation of the DSP/AC3 board one must have an understanding of its operation. The below circuit description is provided to familiarize you with its functions and how an audio signal is processed by the circuit. The DSP/AC3 provides two basic functions, analog signal processing and digital signal processing. For a better understanding of its operation refer to the IC block diagrams. We will cover the analog signal flow first and then the digital. The right and left analog signal enter the board via CP401 pins 7 and 9 respectably, IC11 and 12 then amplify the signals. Once amplified the signals are sent to IC1 pins 16 and 20. IC1 converts the analog signal to a digital signal and it exits IC1 as a Serial Digital signal, SDOUT, on pin 4. The SD signal is then sent to IC5 pin 27 for processing. IC5 determines if the signal is a standard surround sound signal or Dolby ProLogic signal. The function of IC5 is determined by data from IC19. IC19 acts as a buffer for data from the main system control microprocessor. These signals will determine if the DSP IC, IC5, is in the Dolby ProLogic, concert, stadium, theater, church, arena, or club mode. The digital signal is then processed by IC5 and exits as three digital signals at pins 39, 40 and 41. These signals then enter IC1on pins 1, 2 and 3. IC1 decodes the three digital signals into appropriate analog signals and processes them out pins 23 through 26 to IC6, 7 and 8. IC6, 7 and 8 then amplify the signal and it is processed out CP402 pins 1(LF), 3(RF), 5(C), 7(S-L), 9(S-R) and 11(SW). A digital signal can be provided by either the COAX-IN or Optical cable. The Coax in is delivered to IC14 pin 4 and the Optical signal is delivered to IC14 pin 12. The digital signal contains the audio information and a timing or clock signal. The clock is processed by IC14 and OCLK exits on pin 16 and OLRCK at pin 17. The two clock signal are then buffered by IC18 and sent on to IC1 and IC5 for timing. The digital audio is processed into an SD (Serial Digital) signal and processed out pin 18 to pin 22 of IC5. IC5 then determines if the signal is an AC-3 or DTS signal. As in the analog mod, the data from IC19 determines the mode of the DSP. After being processed by IC5 the Digital signal exits IC5 as three digital signals on pin 39, 40 and 41. To use the remotecontrol, point it directly at your receiver.Set up and Maintenance of the Receiver Provide spaces for sufficient ventilation as indicated: Do not connect to the AC power cords until allconnections are completed. Do not use your set immediately after transferringit from a cold place to a warm place: there is risk ofcondensation. Do not expose your set to water and excessivelyhigh temperatures. After having disconnected your set, clean the casewith a soft cloth, or with a slightly damp leatherchamois. Never use strong solvents.Protect your Components fromOverheating Do not block ventilation holes in any component.Arrange the components so that air can circulatefreely. Do not stack components directly on top of eachother. Allow adequate ventilation when placing yourcomponents in a stand. Place an amplifier near the top shelf of the standso heated air rising from it will not affect other com-ponents. If you have a satellite receiver, you shouldplace it on the top shelf.EN310 cm/410 cm/ 410 cm/ 410 cm/45 cm/ 2FRONT SPEAKERSCENTER SPEAKERSSUB WOOFERREAR SPEAKERS(SURROUND SOUND)2 X grey/black cable for rear speakers1 X brown/blackcable for subwoofer1 X blue/black cablefor centre speaker2 X red/black cable for front speakersGetting StartedConnecting to Audio-Visual Components4PRE OUTFRONT LREAR LFRONT RREAR RINININOUTINMONITOR OUTINOUTDIGITAL INPUTDVD/CD/SATDVD/CD/SAT/TVOPTICALTVVCRCD PlayerTape DeckSAT Multi-Channel Decoder e.g. DTSto LINE OUT(Tape Deck)to LINE IN ( Tape Deck )to AUDIO OUT (CD)to VIDEO OUT (SAT)to AUDIO OUT (SAT)to S-VIDEO OUT (SAT)to S-VIDEO OUT (DVD)to AUDIO OUT(DVD)to VIDEO OUT (DVD)to AUDIO OUT (TV)to VIDEO IN (TV)to S-VIDEO IN (TV)to AUDIO OUT (VCR)to VIDEO OUT (VCR) to VIDEO IN (VCR) to AUDIO IN (VCR)to AUDIO OUTto AUDIO OUT (DVD)UNIT BACK PANELDIGITAL CONNECTIONIf you have a SAT receiver DVD player or CD player with a digital output, you can make use of an optical digital connecting cord (not supplied) or coaxial digital connecting cord (not supplied) to carry the audio portion of the signal and enjoy Dolby Digital sound quality. One optical or coaxial cable is needed for each SAT receiver, DVD player or CD player. When optical or coaxial cable is used, the analog audio cables are still needed if recording through a tape or VCR is desired. This receiver provides one optical and one coaxial digital input for the connection of your components. Please connect your components (e.g. DVD, SAT or CD) to the appropriate digital inputs and press FUNCTION and then rotate MULTIJOG to match your connection. Note: Optical and coax cables carry only the audio portion of the signal. A video connection must also be established for a SAT receiver and DVD player. S-video provides the best connection for the video portion of the signal. Composite video (yellow RCA connector) can also be used. It isimportant that the same type of cable (S-video or composite) that is connected from the Home Theater to the TV is used to connect the SAT receiver or DVD player to the Home Theater.FRONT TERMINALRemark: If you have a video camera, video game machine, or an extra VCR, connect it to VCR 2 jack at the front of the receiverDIGITAL INPUTConnect components capable of outputing Dolby Digital (e.g. DVD or SAT) or standard PCM (CD) format digital signals. Read section on Input Signal Setting under Advanced Sound Control carefully to adjust the matching input settings. If your CD player is equipped with digital optical jacks, use of optical cable is preferred. What you need is just one more optical digital connecting cord(not supplied). Plug it in the digital input jack of the receiver and select OPTICAL on the receiver setting (see details on pg 20 chapter Input Signal Setting). You can enjoy better sound quality brought to you by the
