Dolby Pro Logic In this mode all fivespeakers are used.2. Dolby Pro Logic Phantom In this mode the centerchannel does not operate. This may be preferredwhen listening to a musicsource that was notrecorded with surround-channel information.3. 2-channel In thismode the program isplayed back in a tra-ditional stereo form. What is Dolby*Pro Logic*?Dolby*Pro Logic*is anencode/decode process bywhich four channels ofsound-track informationare encoded into two channels for playback onVCRs, laser disc players, and some TV broadcasts, and then decoded backinto four channels for playback through five loudspeakers. Rememberthat a Dolby Pro Logic system consists of threechannels of information for front left, center, andright speakers and onechannel of mono surroundinformation. The surroundchannel is played backthrough two speakers.Dolby Pro Logic helps tore-create all of the impactand excitement of a movietheater in your home. A noise will beheard cycling, in order, from the front left, center, right, and both surroundspeakers.Using the remote control, push “Tone.” Then adjustthe Center and Surroundlevels until the volume of all the speakers is the same during the test.Note: The test tone is used to calibrate the performance of the system. When listening to an actualrecording, the volume levelof the surround channels isgenerally much lower thanthat of the front channels. In fact, when listening to amovie, virtually all of thedialogue and a substantialnumber of the effects arereproduced through thecenter channel.Test ToneBalanceSurroundCalibrate+SurroundCalibrate+SurroundCalibrate+Center-Channel VolumeSurroundCalibrate+SurroundCalibrate+SurroundCalibrate+AuxSurroundToneCalibrate+REMOTE Push “Calibrate” on theremote control until“Balance” appears in thedisplay.REMOTEPush “” on the remote control to adjust the balance toward the leftspeaker.REMOTEPush “+” on the remote control to adjust the balancetoward the right speaker.REMOTE Push “Calibrate” on theremote control until “Center”appears in the display andthe corresponding LED ontop of the display is lit.REMOTEPush “” on the remote control to decrease the volume of the center channel.REMOTEPush “+” on the remote control to increase thevolume of the centerchannel.THE SOURCECDOpenRandomPowerVolumeSkipSearchTuneStereo/Mono Bass +Surround Mode Treble +Tuner PresetsAuto AddTape/AuxTVAuto TuneAM/FMRepeatDeleteRearSpeakersTMMuteVolumeCDAM/FMTVAuxSurroundToneCalibratePowerSleep+The SourceRemote ControlRear-Channel VolumeSurroundCalibrate+SurroundCalibrate+SurroundCalibrate+REMOTEPush “Calibrate” on theremote control until “Rear”appears in the display andthe corresponding LED on top of the display is lit.REMOTEPush “” on the remote control to decrease the volume of the rear channels.REMOTEPush “+” on the remotecontrol to increase the volume of the rearchannels.ESC350 Simply Cinema OM 9/11/98 2:06 PM Page 1612 17 Delay TimeThe delay control allowsthe user to set the sur-round delay between 15and 30 milliseconds in one-millisecond increments. The best setting willdepend on the distancebetween the main listening area and thefront speakers as well asthe distance between themain listening area and the rear speakers. Make sure the Master PowerSwitch, located on the rear of thesubwoofer, is in the “On/Standby”position. Make sure there is a source for example, a VCR or television hooked up to the TV or tape/auxinput jacks on The Source. Make sure that the program material is playing. Recheck the hookup connec-tions.If most of the sound comes fromthe center-channel speaker, withlittle or no information from the surround channels, note the following:Although most of todays televi-sions are equipped with stereoaudio output jacks, some stereotelevisions have poor audio sec-tions and are unable to provide aDolby Pro Logic encoded signal. Inthe unlikely event that you experi-ence this problem, connecting theaudio outputs from your hi-fi VCR,laser disc player, DVD player, orsatellite receiver directly to one ofthe inputs on The Source will pro-vide a proper audio signal andallow you to enjoy true Dolby ProLogic surround sound. If there is no sound from thesurround speakers or sound isvery low, check the following: Check all connections betweenthe amplifier and each of thespeakers. Raise the surround volume from the remote control (see “Operation” section). Make sure the TV show or movie you are watching is recorded inDolby Surround. If there is no sound from thecenter speaker, check thefollowing: Make sure that the processor is in the Pro Logic mode.
