Power - (PSW-D110 ONLY) This light will be REDwhen the unit is plugged in and not receiving a signal;when the PSW-D110 receives a signal, the light will cycleto GREEN. If no signal is received after 10 15 minutesthe light will cycle back to RED (standby) until a signal ispresent again.2. Level Control - The subwoofer Level Control,(PSW-D110, located on the front panel, DPS-10, on therear panel) adjusts the volume of the subwoofer relativeto the rest of the system.3. High Pass Control - Controls the the roll-off point ofthe highest frequency the subwoofer will produce.4. Phase Switch - Changes the subwoofers output to bein phase or 180 degrees out of phase with the programmaterial.5. Low Pass Control - Controls the roll-off point of thelowest frequency produced at the High Pass OutputJacks.6. High Pass Output - When using the Line-Level Inputjacks, these are connected to an external power amplifieror receiver to power the main loudspeakers with a highpass filter if desired.7. Line Input - Main Input connection to subwoofer(preferred).8. Speaker In Jacks - Main Input connection tosubwoofer when line level, subwoofer, or pre-amp outputconnectors are not availible, or when a high pass filter(set at 180Hz) to main loudspeakers is desired throughthe Speaker Output Jacks.9. Speaker Out Jacks - Connected to main loudspeakerswhen the Speaker Input Jacks are used.6Amplifier/SubwooferPSW-D110/DPS-10RRLLSPKRINSPKROUT60901501801206090150180120RLLineHigh PassOutputInput180o0oPhaseHighPassLowPassminmaxFront Panel (only)PSW-D110Rear Panel213567894PSW-D110/DPS-10 CONTROLS AND THEIR FUNCTIONOPERATIONCrossover AdjustmentsHigh-Pass Control This control is only active if you are using the hook-upmethod described in detail on page 8, Figure 3. TheHigh-Pass control determines the frequency at which themain speakers will start reproducing sounds. If your mainspeakers can comfortably reproduce some low-frequencysounds, also set this control to a lower frequency setting, between 50Hz 100Hz. This will concentrate thesubwoofers efforts to the ultradeep bass sounds, while yourmain speakers continue to reproduce the mid-bassinformation. If you are using smaller bookshelf speakersthat do not extend to the lower bass frequencies, set thehigh-pass crossover control to a higher setting, between125Hz 180Hz. With this setting, your main speakers willnot have the burden of reproducing any low-frequencysounds.Final adjustment and blending of the low-pass andhigh-pass controls may evolve over several listeningsessions. A good starting point would be to set both the low-and high-pass controls to the same frequency and adjustfrom that point.Low-Pass ControlThe Low-Pass control determines the highest frequency atwhich the subwoofer reproduces sounds. If your mainspeakers can comfortably reproduce some low-frequencysounds, set this control to a lower frequency setting, between 50Hz 100Hz. This will concentrate thesubwoofers efforts on the ultradeep bass sounds requiredby todays films and music. If you are using smallerbookshelf speakers that do not extend to the lower bassfrequencies, set the low-pass crossover control to a highersetting, between 120Hz 180Hz.PhasePhase ControlThe Phase Control determines whether the subwooferspeakers piston-like action moves in and out with the mainspeakers, 0?, or opposite the main speakers, 180?. There isno correct or incorrect setting. Proper phase adjustmentdepends on several variables such as room size, subwooferplacement and listener position. Adjust the phase switch tomaximize bass output at the listening position.Remember, every system, room and listener is different. There are no right or wrong settings; any setting you choosewill result in excellent performance. Should you decide tofine-tune your system for optimum performance, be patientand trust your ears. It will be worth the effort involved to fully“tweak” your system.7Amplifier/SubwooferPSW-D110/DPS-10SPEAKER CONNECTIONS1) If your receiver/amplifier has no subwoofer outputs orpreamp outputs for the left and right channels. See Figure 1.2) If your receiver/amplifier has subwoofer outputs orpreamp output jacks for the left and right channels. SeeFigure 2.Note: Some receivers/amplifiers have a single (mono)subwoofer output. In this case, it is recommended that youuse a “Y”-connector (not included) to maximize thesubwoofers performance.3) If your receiver/amplifier has preamp output jacks andmain input jacks for the left and right channels or you have aseparate pre-amp/ processor and power amplifier. SeeFigure 3.This method of hookup can offer the highest level ofperformance for your complete loudspeaker system. ThePSW-D110/DPS-10 incorporates a variable high-passcrossover in addition to a variable low-pass crossover. When hooked up as shown above, the subwoofer will limitthe low-frequency information that is returned to yourreceiver/amplifier. Your receiver/amplifier does not need towaste valuable power reproducing the low frequencies. Inaddition, since no low-frequency information is being sent toyour main loudspeakers, they are able to reproduce mid andhigh frequencies with greater clarity8Amplifier/SubwooferPSW-D110/DPS-10RRLLSPKRINSPKROUT60901501801206090150180120RLPowerLineHigh PassOutputInput180o0oPhaseHighPassLowPassLEFTSPEAKERRIGHTSPEAKERSPEAKER OUTPUTLEFTRIGHTRECEIVER/AMPLIFIERFigure 1Figure 2RRLLSPKRINSPKROUT60901501801206090150180120RLPowerLineHigh PassOutputInput180o0oPhaseHighPassLowPassRIGHTLOUDSPEAKERLEFTLOUDSPEAKERMAIN SPEAKER OUTPUTSUBWOOFER OUTLEFTLEFTRIGHTRIGHTRECEIVER/AMPLIFIERFigure 3RRLLSPKRINSPKROUT60901501801206090150180120RLPowerLineHigh PassOutputInput180o0oPhaseHighPassLowPassRIGHTLOUDSPEAKERLEFTLOUDSPEAKERMAIN SPEAKER OUTPUTLEFTRIGHTRIGHTLEFTRECEIVER/AMPLIFIERPREOUTMAININNOTE: The rear plate for the PSW-D110 is shown, which has the level control on the front panel.
