Pleaselook over the following threeexamples to determine whichdescription best matches your system and follow thecorresponding hookupinstructions. To use the binding-postspeaker terminals withbare wire, unscrew the collaruntil the pass-through hole inthe center post is visibleunder the collar. Insert thebare end of the wire throughthe hole in the post, thenscrew the collar back downuntil the connection is tight. The holes in the center of thecollars are intended forbanana-type connectors.Dolby* Pro Logic* (Non-Digital) Speaker LevelUse this installation methodfor Dolby Pro Logic appli-cations (not Dolby Digital,DTSor other digitalprocessing), where thereceiver/processor does nothave a subwoofer output or a volume-controlled preamp(line-) level output:If your receiver features bassmanagement capabilities thatrequire you to configure yourspeaker settings, make sureto set your left- and right-frontspeakers to “LARGE”.Connect your receiver oramplifiers front left and rightspeaker terminals to the leftand right terminals on thesubwoofer that are marked“High Level In” . Connectthe left and right terminals onthe subwoofer that aremarked “High Level Out” to the correspondingterminals on the back of yourfront left and right speakers. Connect your receiver oramplifiers center, left andright surround-speakerterminals to the corre-sponding terminals on theback of your center, left andright surround speakers.SPEAKER CONNECTIONRight FrontLeft FrontCenter+ + + SubwooferRight SurroundLeft Surround+ + + + Left FrontCenter+ Left SurroundRight Front+ Right Surround+ ReceiverLRHIGHLEVELINLRLRHIGHLEVELOUT+ 4Dolby Pro Logic (Non-Digital) Line LevelUse this installation methodfor Dolby Pro Logic appli-cations (not Dolby Digital, DTSor other digital processing),where the receiver/processoris equipped with a subwooferoutput or a volume-controlledpreamp (line-) level output:Use RCA-type patch cords to connect the line-levelsubwoofer outputs on yourreceiver or amplifier to theLine Level inputs on thesubwoofer. IMPORTANT:Make sure that the LFE toggleswitch on the subwoofer isin the “Normal” position. Donot use the “LFE” positionwith Dolby Pro Logic-onlyprocessors. Note: If your receiver oramplifier only has onesubwoofer output jack, then you may connect thesubwoofer output on yourreceiver/preamplifier to eitherthe left or right Line Levelinput on the subwoofer. Itmakes no difference whichjack you choose.Connect each speaker to thecorresponding speakerterminals on your receiver oramplifier.Make sure your receiver orprocessor is configured cor-rectly: Make sure that the sub-woofer is configured as “On.”Note for advanced users: Ifyour receiver/processor has a built-in low-pass crossoverfilter for the subwoofer output, then the LFE switch shouldbe set to the “LFE” position tobypass the subwoofersinternal crossover.SubwooferOutRECEIVERL RHIGHLEVELINHIGHLEVELOUTLRLR+ IN OUT R LCROSSOVERFREQUENCYBASSQ(See ownersmanualbefore use)LINELEVEL IN(For LFEuse R or L)LEVELPHASEAUTO50Hz80Hz1800LFENORMALONOFF150HzMINMAX 56Dolby Digital or DTS (or Other Digital Surround Mode) ConnectionUse this installation methodfor Dolby Digital, DTS or otherdigital surround processors: IMPORTANT: Make sure thatthe LFE toggle switch onthe subwoofer is in the “LFE”position. The BassQwill enable you to optimizeyour systems bass responseby equalizing the output ofmultiple subwoofers to best match your listeningenvironment. DO NOT con-nect these jacks to any otherdevice. Do not use the BassQjacks without having firstread the BassQ ownersmanual.BassQJacks7OPERATIONThe S120PIIis equipped withboth a master Power switch and an Auto turn-on/turn-off switch . In order tofunction, the S120PIImust be plugged into an activeelectrical outlet (but not anaccessories outlet on anothercomponent of your audiosystem such as a receiver),and the master Power switch must be turned on (the “” position). The Auto turn-on/turn-offswitch has three positions: OnThe subwoofer is on atall times and ready toplay program material.Auto As long as no audiosignal is received, thesubwoofer is in Standbymode to conservepower, indicated by thered color of the LEDs onthe front of the unit. When an audio signal issensed, the subwooferwill switch itself into thefully On mode and beginplaying the programmaterial. The LEDs willturn green. When aperiod of about twentyminutes goes by duringwhich no signal issensed, the S120PIIwillreturn to Standby mode, indicated by the LEDsturning red.OffThe subwoofer is off atall times, even if anaudio signal is presentat its inputs. If you plan to be away for anextended time, or if thesubwoofer will not be used, you may wish to turn off themaster Power switch .The subwoofer Level Control adjusts the volume of the subwoofer relative to the restof the system. Proper leveladjustment depends onseveral variables such asroom size, subwooferplacement, type of mainspeakers and listener position.Adjust the subwoofer level sothat the volume of the bassinformation is pleasing to you. When using a Dolby Digital/DTS receiver, adjust the LFElevel on the receiver to 0dB,and then adjust the subwooferLevel Control for thedesired amount of bass.Crossover AdjustmentsThe Crossover FrequencyControl determines thehighest frequency at which thesubwoofer reproducessounds. If your main speakers cancomfortably reproduce somelow-frequency sounds, set this control to a lowerfrequency setting, between50Hz 100Hz. This willconcentrate the subwoofersefforts on the ultradeep basssounds required by todaysfilms and music. If you areusing smaller bookshelfspeakers that do not extend tothe lower bass frequencies, set the low-pass Crossovercontrol to a higher setting, between 120Hz 150Hz. Thiscontrol is not used whenthe LFE switch is in the“LFE” position.S120PIICAUTIONRISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCKDO NOT OPENWARNING: TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE OR ELECTRIC SHOCK,DO NOT EXPOSE THIS APPLIANCE TO RAIN OR MOISTURE.AVERTISSEMENT: POUR PRVENIR LES RISQUES DINCENDIE OUDE CHOC LECTRIQUE VITER DEXPOSER CET APPAREIL A LAPLUIE OU A LHUMIDIT.ONOFFHIGHLEVELINHIGHLEVELOUTLRLR+ IN OUT R LCROSSOVERFREQUENCYLINELEVEL IN(For LFEuse R or L)LEVELPHASEAUTOBASSQ(See ownersmanualbefore use)50Hz80Hz1800LFENORMALONOFF150HzMINMAX Level ControlPower8TROUBLESHOOTINGIf you used the High Level(speaker) inputs and there is no sound from any of thespeakers: Check that receiver/amplifieris on and a source is playing. Check that poweredsubwoofer is plugged into an active electrical outlet and is switched on . Check all wires andconnections betweenreceiver/amplifier andspeakers. Make sure all wiresare connected. Make surenone of the speaker wires are frayed, cut or punctured.Make sure no wires aretouching other wires orterminals and creating a short circuit. Review proper operation of your receiver/amplifier.If there is low (or no) bassoutput: Make sure the connectionsto the left and right “SpeakerInputs” have the correct polarity (+ and ). Make sure that thesubwoofer is plugged into anactive electrical outlet andthat both power switches are on . Adjust the Crossover point. Flip the Phase Controlswitch to the oppositeposition. If you are using a DolbyDigital/DTS receiver or processor, make sure that thesubwoofer adjustments on the receiver/processor are set up correctly. When usingthe S120PIIs Speaker Levelinputs , you should set yourreceiver to configure themain left and right speakersas “LARGE”. Slowly turn the Level Control clockwise untilyou begin to hear the desiredamount of bass.If you used the Line Levelinputs and there is nosound from the subwoofer: Check that receiver/amplifieris on and a source is playing. Check that poweredsubwoofer is plugged into anactive electrical outlet andthat both Power switches are on . Check all wires and con-nections between receiver/amplifier and subwoofer.Make sure all wires areconnected. Make sure noneof the wires are frayed, cut or punctured. Review proper operation ofyour receiver/amplifier. Slowly turn the Level Control clockwise untilyou begin to hear the desiredamount of bass. Make sure that you haveconfigured your receiver/processor so that thesubwoofer/LFE output is on.Phase ControlThe Phase Control determines whether thesubwoofers piston-like actionmoves in and out in phasewith the main speakers oropposite the main speakers. There is no correct orincorrect setting. Properphase adjustment depends onseveral variables such assubwoofer placement andlistener position. Adjust thePhase switch to maximizebass output at the listeningposition.Remember, every system, room and listener is different. There are no right or wrongsettings; this switch offersthe added flexibility to adjustyour subwoofer for optimumperformance for your specificlistening conditions withouthaving to move your speakers. If at some time in t
