Such components commonlyare called Electrostatically Sensitive (ES) Devices. Examples of typical ES devices are integrated circuits and somefield effect transistors and semiconductor “chip” components. The following techniques should be used to helpreduce the incidence of component damage caused by static electricity.1. Immediately before handling any semiconductor component or semiconductor-equipped assembly, drain off anyelectrostatic charge on your body by touching a known earth ground. Alternatively obtain and wear a commerciallyavailable discharging wrist strap device, which should be removed for potential shock reasons prior to applyingpower to the unit under test.2. After removing an electrical assembly equipped with ES devices, place the assembly on a conductive surfacesuch as aluminum foil, to prevent electrostatic charge buildup or exposure of the assembly.3. Use only a grounded-tip soldering iron to solder or unsolder ES devices.4. Use only an anti-static solder removal device. Some solder removal devices not classified as “anti-static” cangenerate electrical charges sufficient to damage ES devices,5. Do not use freon-propelled chemicals. These can generate electrical change sufficient to damage ES devices.6. Do not remove a replacement ES device from its protective package until immediately before you are ready toinstall it. (Most replacement ES devices are packaged with leads electrically shorted together by conductive foam, aluminum foil or comparable conductive material.)7. Immediately before removing the protective material from the leads of a replacement ES device, touch theprotective material to the chassis or circuit assembly into which the device will be installed.CAUTION : Be sure no power is applied to the chassis or circuit, and observe all other safety precautions.8. Minimize bodily motions when handling unpacked replacement ES devices. (Otherwise harmless motion such asthe brushing together or your clothes fabric or the lifting of your foot from a carpeted floor can generate staticelectricity sufficient to damage an ES device.)PRODUCT SAFETY NOTICEEach precaution in this manual should be followed during servicing.Components identified with the IEC symbol the parts list are of special significance to safety. Whenreplacing a component identified with , use only the replacement parts designated, or parts with thesame ratings or resistance, wattage or voltage that are designated in the parts list in this manual.Leakage-current or resistance measurements must be made to determine that exposed parts are acceptablyinsulated from the supply circuit before returning the product to the customer. 3AVR100 / AVR2007 AVR100 / AVR2005 FRONT-PANEL CONTROLS1 Main Power Switch: Press this button toapply power to the AVR 100.When the switchis pressed in, the unit is placed in a Standbymode, as indicated by the amber LED 3 sur-rounding the System Power Control 2.This button MUST be pressed in to operate theunit. To turn the unit off and prevent the useof the remote control, this switch should bepressed until it pops out from the front panelso that the word “OFF” may be read at thetop of the switch.NOTE: In normal operation this switch is left inthe “ON” position.2 System Power Control: When the MainPower Switch 1 is “ON,” press this buttonto turn on the AVR 100; press it again to turnthe unit off. Note that the Power Indicatorsurrounding the switch 3 will turn greenwhen the unit is on.3 Power Indicator: This LED will illuminatein amber when the unit is in the Standby modeto signal that the unit is ready to be turned on.When the unit is in operation, the indicator willturn green.4 Headphone Jack:This jack may be used tolisten to the AVR 100s output through a pair ofheadphones. Be certain that the headphoneshave a standard 1/4 stereo phone plug. Notethat the main room speakers will automaticallybe turned off when the headphone jack is in use.5 Bass Control:Turn this control to modify thelow-frequency output of the left/right channels byas much as 10dB.Set this control to a suitableposition for your taste or room acoustics.6 Treble Control:Turn this control to modifythe high-frequency output of the left/right chan-nels by as much as 10dB.Set this control to asuitable position for your taste or room acoustics.7 Balance Control: Turn this control tochange the relative volume for the frontleft/right channels.NOTE: For proper operation of the surroundmodes this control should be at the midpoint or “12 oclock” position.Front-Panel Controls1 Main Power Switch2 System Power Control3 Power Indicator4 Headphone Jack5 Bass Control6 Treble Control7 Balance Control8 Video 3 Inputs9 Sleep Button) Tape Input Selector! Press it again to change between AMand FM bands. Tuning Button: Press the left side of thebutton to tune lower frequency stations and theright side of the button to tune higher frequencystations. When a station with a strong signal isreached, the TUNED indicator N will illumi-nate in the Information Display 3 5.To tune manually, tap the button lightly andnote that the tuner will step up one frequencyper button press. When the button is held for afew seconds you will note that the unit willquickly search the frequency band. Release itonce the fast tuning starts and the tuner willautomatically scan for the next station with anacceptable signal and then stop.& Preset Scan: Press this button to automat-ically scan through the stations that have beenprogrammed in the AVR 100s memory.Thetuner will play five seconds of each stationbefore moving to the next preset station.Tostop the scan when the desired station is heard, press the button again. (See pages 2425 formore information on the tuner memory system.)* Preset Stations Selector: Press this but-ton to select stations that have been enteredinto the preset memory. (See pages 2425 formore information on tuner programming.)(Tuner Mode: Press this button to selectthe stereo or mono mode for FM tuning. In theSTEREO mode a Stereo indicator L will illu-minate in the information display, and stereoreception will be provided when stations aretransmitting stereo signals. In the MONO modethe left and right signals from stereo broadcastswill be mixed together. Select MONO for betterreception of weak signals.
