IntroductionCongratulations on choosing Australian Monitor foryourprofessionalamplificationrequirements. The design of our Synergy-Series Audio PowerAmplifiers embraces all the aspects of a welldesigned amplifier. The visual design, mechanical, electrical and sonic parameters, along with ourdedicated manufacturing process, have all beenoptimized to provide a professional tool that exhibitsquality, reliabilityandlongevity. The Synergy-Series amplifiers are 2 unit (3.5) high,19wide,rackmountableunits.Each channel of the amplifier comprises a balancedactive input with a buffered attenuator driving adifferential class A drive stage which in turn drives afan-cooled,classAB,BJToutputstageconfiguredasan emitter follower. The amplifier operates from ahighcurrent-capablelinearpowersupply.These amplifiers have been specifically designed todelivertheirhighpoweroutputwithminimaldistortion, and provide the critical degree of controlrequired by your speakers, at high duty cycles forextendedperiods.Figure 1 Amplifier Block DiagramIntroduction 52.Controls,Connectors&IndicatorsFigure 2Front Panel Layout (left to right - SY4200, SY1200, SY6125)6 Controls & ConnectorsSY 6125LEVEL-ALEVEL-BLEVEL-CLEVEL-DLEVEL-ELEVEL-FMINMINMINMINMINMINMAXMAXMAXMAXMAXMAXACEBDFSTATUSSTATUSSTATUSOVERLOADOVERLOADOVERLOADPOWERTHERMALFAULTSY 4200LEVEL-ALEVEL-BLEVEL-CLEVEL-DMINMINMINMINMAXMAXMAXMAXACBDSTATUSSTATUSOVERLOADOVERLOADPOWERTHERMALFAULTAustralianMonitorAustralianMonitorFront PanelThe Synergy Series differ only slightly across allmodelsandallsharethesamefeaturesontheirfrontpanels.shows the panel layout of three Synergyamplifiers,SY4200,SY1200&SY6125.TheSY1200 looks the same as the SY400, SY800,SY1600, SY400V & SY800V. The functions of thecontrolsandindicatorsareasfollows:Level control for your amplifier is provided by apotentiometer on the front panel and indicatesgain. There are 2 controls on allmodelsexcept the SY4200 which has 4 controls and theSY6125 which has 6 controls. Each control islabelledforthechannelwhichitcontrols. This is a dual colour LED which displays thestatus of the output stage and displays threelevelsofoperation.Theselevelsare:Below1watt(unlit)1wattandabove()1dBbelowactualclipping()The LED will turn green once the output voltageexceeds 2.828 volts (1 watt re 8 ohms or 2 wattsre4ohms).FortheSY400V&SY800Vtheoutputvoltageis10volts&7.070volts(2wattsre50ohm&25ohm)respectivelyThe LED will change to red once the outputexceeds the -1dB point before actual clipping oftheamplifiersoutputstage.Thethresholdofthe-1dB point is referred to the amplifier supply railsand alters with changes in the mains supply, changesintheloadanddutycyclefluctuations. The attack and decay time (ballistics), of thestatus circuit are those of a Peak ProgrammeMetre(P.P.M.)If using this indicator to line up sensitivities, applya steady state tone (e.g. slate on a mixingconsole). Clipping on the SY400V & SY800Vmay cause speaker transformers to saturatecausing the amplifier to shut down. For thisreason the voltage limiters should always beengaged on the SY400V & SY800V (see RearPanel-LimiterSwitchonpage11).ThisLED will illuminate when an overloadconditionexists.Overload conditions can occur under extremeoperatingconditionssuchas:-complexorverylowloads-overdrivingtheamplifier-speakertransformersaturationIt should be noted that the minimum load for theamplifier is 4 ohms per channel (8 ohm bridged)except the SY400V which has a minimum load of50 ohms per channel and the SY800V which hasa minimum load of 25 ohms per channel. (TheSY400V&SY800Vcannotbebridged).If an overload occurs, the amplifier will shut downand mute all outputs except the SY6125 &SY4200 which will only mute the channel with theoverload. If the overload is only transitory, thenthe amplifier will resume normal operation afterapproximately 7 secs. If the fault is continuous, thentheamplifierwillremainmuted.Presstheswitchtoforpower( )andfor power(). At start-up (turn-on), the inputto the amplifier is muted for approximately twoseconds.butspeakersmaybe3 Overload Indicator4 PowerSwitchamberupon Idownoff05 ThermalIndicatorIn the advent of a thermal overload, this LED willturnindicating that the internal operatingtemperature of one or both amplifier channelshas exceeded a safe level of operation and thechannels will be automatically muted.
