Most problems users encounter are due to operating errors. If you have a problem, first check this list for apossible solution. If the problem persists, consult your authorized Harman Kardon Service Center.If the problem is.Make sure that the.No lights appear when System Power button is pressedUnit is plugged into a live outlet.Make sure the outlet is active.No sound is heardTune to an active station.Check for correct amplifier settings.Check the connections and wires.Sound distorts, particularly in stereo mode.Use a more directional antenna.Intermittent or continuous buzzing or hissing.Place the unit farther away from these appliances. Install noise filters on the appliances.Display says No stations AvailableCheck that antenna is connected.Ensure that DAB coverage exists in your area.Display has gone blank or says service off airThis may occur if a broadcaster changes the label of a service or removes a label whilst youare listening to it.Try to retune to this station, using the Autotune procedure.29168_TU970II_ENG 03/07/06 11:03 Side 12harman/kardonTU 970II/230 Service ManualPage 3 of 21?Power Indicator:This LED will illuminate inamber when the unit is in the Standby mode tosignal that the unit is ready to be turned on.When the unit is in operation, the indicator willturn blue.1System Power Control: Press this buttonto turn on the TU 970 II; press it again to turnthe unit off (to Standby). Note that the PowerIndicator?next to the switch will turn bluewhen the unit is on.2Band Selector: Press this button to changebetween the DAB, FM and AM frequency bands.3Function/FM Mode Selector: In DABmode, pressing this button will activate stationorder, preset tune, Dynamic Rate Control ormanual tune features. In FM mode, press thisbutton to select the stereo or mono mode forFM tuning. In the stereo mode, the wordSTEREOwill be shown in the InformationDisplay6, and stereo reception will beprovided when stations are transmitting stereosignals. In the mono mode, the left and rightsignals from stereo broadcasts will be mixedtogether and reproduced through all channels.Select MONOfor better reception of weaksignals.4Info/RDS Button: In DAB mode, pressingthis button will change the content of the lowerdisplay line of the Information Display as shownon page 9, as well as signal error rate and soft-ware version. In RDS mode, it will changebetween the different RDS options.5Auto Tune Button: In DAB mode, press thisbutton to automatically scan all availablestations.6Information Display:This dual line displaydelivers messages and status indications to helpyou operate the tuner.7Dimmer: Press this button to dim the frontpanel display.The first press of the button willdim the displays to one-half normal brightness;the next press will turn back to normal bright-ness.The display will return to normal brightnessthe next time the unit is turned on.8Memory Button: Press this button to openthe memory position that stores a presetlocation in the tuner. 99 DAB presets can bestored, as well as 30 FM and 30 AM presets.(See page 9 for more information on tunerpresets.)9Control Ring:Turn counterclockwise totune lower frequency stations and clockwise totune higher frequency stations.When a stationwith a strong signal is tuned, the InformationDisplay6will read TUNED.Turn again totune to the next frequency increment in ManualTune Mode, or automatically to the nextstation with a signal strong enough foracceptable reception in Auto Tune Mode.The ring also controls the parameters in thedifferent menus.A Select: In FM or AM mode, press thisbutton to select Auto Tune, Manual Tune orPreset Tune. Optical and Coaxial Digital OutputsFM AntennaAM AntennaAnalog Audio OutputsDAB AntennaAC Power CordRemote Control OutputRemote Control Input?Optical and Coaxial Digital Outputs:Connect one of these jacks to the optical orcoaxial digital input of your pre amplifier orintegrated amplifier, if available.Note that these digital outputs only contain thedigital signal from the DAB stations. For FM/AMreception, you will have to connect the analogoutputs at all times.?FM Antenna: Connect an indoor or exter-nal FM antenna to this terminal.?AM Antenna: Connect the AM loopantenna supplied with the receiver to theseterminals. If an external AM antenna is used,make connections to the AM and GNDterminals in accordance with the instructionssupplied with the antenna.?Analog Audio Outputs: Connect thesejacks to the tuner input of your pre amplifier orintegrated amplifier for analog audio playback.Be certain to observe proper channelconnections using the color-coded cables andconnectors so that red connects right channelsand white connects left channels.NOTE: Before making any audio connections,unplug all components of your audio systemfrom their AC power outlets.To reduce thepossibility of hum or noise in your system, placeall audio interconnection cables away from bothAC power cords and speaker wires.?DAB Antenna: Connect a DAB antenna tothis terminal.?AC Power Cord: Connect this plug to anAC outlet.
