It is designcd for opcration on an alternating current (A.C.) supply line. The line voitage and frcq,rcncy c,f tiris radio are marked on the nanle label inside of the cabinet. Makc sure that these corrcspond rvith the powtr furnished your hone. If in doubt, check with your local power conlprny. This radio is dcsigncd to opcratc ovcr thrcc frequcncy rangcs as follous: 540 to 1720 kilocycles (Kc.) for broadcast reccption; a band spread rangc of 9 to 15.5 negacycles (Mc.) for reception of American and Forcign short,wave stations; and a range of 42, to 50 megacycles for reception of tl.re new Frequency 4odulation (F.M.) stations. The scale is calibrated in kilocycles for the broadcast rangc, in mcgrcycles for the short wave range, and in station call numbers for the F.M. range. The name label inside the cabinet will show the relative location of the tubes. The Loktal type tubes may be removcd for replacement by rocking them gently in their sockets until the ccnter L-rcking pin rs released. Neither outsidc aerial nor ground is necessary with this model. The improved Philco Built,in Broacicast and Short-Wavc Antenna Systern has been employed because of its special noisereducing properties and srtpcrior shortvrave pcrformance - all with phrgin convenience For maximum performance in steel reinforced buildings and other shielded locations a Philco outdoor antcnna is recommcnded. If standard broadcast and short.wave signals do not require an outdoor antennir, a special Philco Dipole Outdoor Aerial may be used a1one. This Philco Dipole Outdoor Acrial conne;ts in place of the F.M. Builtin Aerial. If an outdoor antenna is dcsired for broadcast, short,wave, and F.NI. reception, a transformer is supplied to be used in conjunction with the Philco Dipole Outdoor Aerial. This translormer is plugged into the socket frour which the F.M. loop connecting plug has bcen removed. If an outdoor antenna is desired for standard broadcast and sirort,wave only, a Philco Outdoor Aerial rnay be connected to the Black teninal of the transformer can. The Philco Dipole Outdoor Aerjal (Part No. 45,2926), the transformcr (Part No. 76,1361), and the Phrlco Outdoor Aerial (Part No.40.6370), may be obtained from your Philco dcalcr. This supplies power to the radio and illuminatcs the dial. The radio is turned ofl by pushing the OFF button. For tuning in the Broadcast Band, push thc button labeled BDCST. To tune in a station, tr.rrn the Volume Control to about one.half its total range and select the station by rotelinc the Trrnin. linob. For best reception, tunc in thc dcsircd stalion with the volume turned 1ow. This enables you to gct the crlct point ai whrch the station comes in best. Then adjust the volurne to the desircd leve1 with the volume control. The tone rnay be adjnstcd by nc,ns , thc BASS and TREBLE controls. When a rcduction in b.rckground noise is desired on distant or short.wave stations, rotate the treble control in a counter.clockwise directiun. For tuning in the Short,Wave Birnd, push the corre sponding button, then proceed the same as tuning on the Broadcast Band. The band sprcad enables you to tune short.wave more easiiy. Short.wave statiolts arc receivcd on the various scctions of the dial according to the follow ing gcncral tinre schedrrlc: lvforning - ll.7.lZ.0 mc.; 1.5.0,1.5.5 mc. Afternoon - 9.5.10.S mc.; 11.7,12.0 mc. Night - 9.5,10.8 mc. Turning the loop inside the cabinet will cause a variation in the volume of reception on wcak stations. This same directional property rvil1 also cause an additional reduction in noise interference in many cases. For maximr.rm perfr-rrmance turn the loop until best reception is obtaincd. This position may vary for dillerent stations. For F.M. reccption, push the button markcd F.N. and selcct a station by tuning near the number on the dial corrcsponding to the desired station call number. The tuning of an F.M. station is inherently broad and for best results it is necessary to tune the set accurately in the micldle of the received signal. Any other sctting such as points off to the side of the correct sctting mty result in distortion and rvil1 not givc the purity of tone and freedom from noise for which the sct is designcd. ELECTRIC PUSH,BUTTON TUNING When your set is installed, your Philco dealer will adjust the radio to your favorite broad cast stations and rvi11 ir.rscrt their call lctters above the station buttons. To tune tl-re set with the Push Buttons, simply push the button below the desired station call letters and your station v,i11 bc tuned instantly. The volume and tone of the program may be controlled qith the VOLUME, BASS, a,nd TREBLE Controls. This set has bccr-r dcsigned to reccive ihe sound of a television program tuncd in by the special type Philco Television Set designed for this purpose. If at any time it is desired to use this Television sound, your Philco Dealer will make the necessary adjustments on the push button labelcd Te1evision. This button may also be used for playing of phonograph records rom a Philco Wireless Record Plaver.
